When We Share Information

  • With authorised third parties for operational purposes (IT, auditors)
  • With public health organisations if legally required

Consent

We usually seek your consent before sharing information, unless it is required for:

  • Your safety or medical treatment
  • Legal obligations
  • Public health requirements

Security

  • All shared information is transmitted securely
  • We follow UK GDPR and NHS guidance for data protection

Opting Out of Data Sharing

At Grove Road Surgery we respect your right to choose how your confidential patient information is used. Under NHS England rules you can opt out of your information being used for purposes beyond your direct care and treatment.

There are two principal options:

  • Type 1 Opt‐out, which stops identifiable data from your GP practice being shared outside the surgery for purposes such as research and planning.
  • National Data Opt‐out, which prevents your confidential patient information from being used for research and planning by other organisations (subject to legal exceptions).

Please note: registering an opt‐out will not stop your information being used to provide you with care or treatment, nor will it affect referrals, prescriptions or direct communications from the surgery. You may change or withdraw your decision at any time.

If you would like more information or want to register an opt‐out, please visit Your data matters or speak to our practice reception team.
