Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions are medicines which appear on your prescription slip. These are medicines which the doctor would like you to continue on a regular basis. Your list can also be found in your online account if you have one.

Repeat prescriptions take at least 4 days to be processed. Please order before you run out of medicine.

How to order repeat prescriptions

There are several ways in which you can order repeat prescriptions:

  • In person - Drop the repeat prescription list which is on the right hand side of your prescription, in the prescription box at the surgery (make sure you tick the medications you require - if the repeat slip is not ticked, then you have to be contacted to confirm the medications required and this may delay the process).
  • Using the NHS App - Registration required.
  • Using our online Patient Services 'Patient Access' - Registration required.
  • Send an email request to ikwueke.grovesurgery@nhs.net and provide your full name, date of birth and the medication you require. The medication will then be sent to your pharmacy in 3 working days.
  • At your pharmacy - You can contact your pharmacy so they can request your medication in your behalf. They will send the surgery requests monthly, so all you need to do is collect your medication from the pharmacy once its ready.

Collections

Please allow at least 3 working days for repeat prescriptions to be processed. This is to ensure that there is sufficient time to draw up the prescription and to get it checked and signed by the GP. Please remember weekends and bank holidays are not working days.

For prescriptions by post please provide a stamped self addressed envelope and allow up to one week to receive the prescription back.

Electronic Prescription Service

Grove Road Surgery is set up for the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). We encourage patients to sign up for and use this service as it will allow us to send your prescribed medications to your nominated pharmacy electronically, meaning you don't have to come to the surgery to pick up your precription form.

Nominating a pharmacy

When you order your repeat prescriptions using our online request form, the NHS App or Patient Access online services you can nominate which pharmacy you would like your medications to be sent to. This nominated pharmacy will be stored in our systems and your medication will be sent there. You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time using these apps and services.

Emergency Medicines

If you need a limited 'emergency supply' of a repeat prescription medicine when you have run out completely and the practice is closed, please visit NHS 111's Emergency Prescription website.

Medication queries

If you have any queries regarding your medication - e.g. medication has not arrived at your nominated pharmacy, your medication is causing unwanted side effects, you are having trouble opening or swallowing your medication etc. then please let us know by calling the practice or contacting us online using AccurRx.

Remember your pharmacist can help you with many common medication queries.

Medication reviews

Medications are given for a reason and the practice needs to know of any changes in your health which may affect your medication. Regular medication reviews are required at least annually, some may need blood test to be done prior to the review with you and these may delay the production of a prescription.

Please make a note of your individual review date on your repeat prescription form. You will need to make an appointment to see our Clinical Pharmacist to discuss your medication. Prescriptions for further supplies will not be issued without this review.
